Values, science, and competing paradigms in sustainability research: furthering the conversation

چکیده

Abstract Sustainability science is fundamentally a problem-driven and solutions-oriented which necessitates engagement with questions of interdisciplinarity normativity. Nagatsu et al. (2020) recently investigated the significance these peculiar characteristics produce useful timely overview problems facing sustainability science, as science. Perhaps most crucial crosscutting challenge they identify regards need for researchers to justify particular values guiding research. In spirit advancing al.’s agenda further developing role in I argue two things. First, that there are practice several active competing approaches dealing problem normativity sustainablity provide options researchers. Second, this unresolved tension at core points more overarching problem, namely explicitly coherent, research paradigms within field.
